I loved the Kiryu Saga especially Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. Good acting, story and characters. I really liked and related to the character of Akane in the first one (Against Mechagodzilla). To bad she didn't have much of a role in S.O.S.

EDIT: To be more specific about my favorite era and after reconsidering a lot of it the list ranks like this...
1. Millennium
2. Heisei
3. Showa

Millennium is now #1 instead of Heisei for multiple reasons. For example I like ALL films from Millennium where as there was a pretty lackluster film in the Heisei era titled "Godzilla & Mothra the Battle For Earth". Another reason is that my favorite Godzilla film GFW is in the Millennium era, another reason is that Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla is a very close second thanks to the good acting, Godzilla suit but mainly the character of Akane who I thought was a very interesting and potentially deep character. She should have been further explored in Tokyo S.O.S. instead of the smaller brief role she got. Plus I got into Godzilla by watching the Millennium films. Millennium is just the most consistent for me. And well I know I will and have already gotten some heat for this...I really don't care for the Showa to much mainly due to the constant campy feel in a lot of the films the only two films I actually think are more than just bad or okay in the Showa era are Gojira and Son of Godzilla everything else I wouldn't really care to much if I didn't see any of them again.

So Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidrah and Monster Zero hover somewhere between "just bad" and "okay" for you?

Those films managed to reach the level of okay for me with Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster being my favorite out of that selection.

See, the funny thing is that most of the Showa series actually aren't camp at all.

Then what do you say about films like Godzilla vs. Gigan (where Godzilla and Anguirus talked), Godzilla vs. Megalon (which had a rip off of Ultraman in it and had Godzilla do a weird flying kick), Godzilla vs. Hedorah (which isn't as campy as the others but still had Godzilla flying...yes I said flying in it)?

I already went through most of this with Gotengo though...

That's three films out of 15. Do you think I'm not aware of any of these moments when I'm replying to you? And how is Jet Jaguar an Ultraman rip-off when the giant, humanoid hero character was all over the place by 1973, and not just confined to Ultraman? And holy crap! Godzilla flew? I never saw that! Every single copy of the "Godzilla vs the Smog Monster"/"Godzilla vs Hedora"/"Gojira tai Hedora" that I've been watching since 1986 must have been edited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My guess is that you're simply one of those kids who are just at a stage of his life where he needs (NEEDS!!!!!!!) his Godzilla movies to be as serious and modern as possible. I was like that when I was a lot younger. I spit all over the Showa stuff when the Heisei films were brand new.

Then I grew up. I'm sure you will too eventually.

This is the correct answer. Yeah, a few of them are, and we're all well aware of those films and those moments. But most of the series is straight-forward sci-fi/kaiju/adventure fare.

I also agree with Sydney Aradi that camp isn't necessarily bad. Megalon is a flawed film, but it's a ton of fun, too.

There's more films that I could name of the 15 those were just the ones that stuck out the most.

So what you're basically saying is I am an immature young kid? For what? Preferring seriousness in a movie franchise I've' loved since Kindergarten? Just because I'm younger than you (I am 16) doesn't mean those are the reasons for me not liking them.

Yeah I do in some enjoy some light hearted moments in other films but for some reason I just enjoy Godzilla films the most when they are almost if not always serious.

The point is that you're dealing with two different kinds of seriousness. Mothra vs. Godzilla is a serious film and concerns itself with legitimate social issues like consumerism, ethical business practices, and the follies of isolationism. Ghidrah is a full on metaphor for the Cold War, an event which could have wiped out the human race.

Compare those to grimacing military heros looking to regain honour, or borderline fetishistic displays of high tech hardware, or a savage and feral Godzilla that dishes out destruction that has no emotional context. Those are two different kinds of seriousness. There's a point where one is just juvenile and hollow. It's what people think is seriousness.

I'd appreciate a rebuttal to my point, quite frankly. It's important to establish everyone is on the same page and there's two definitions of serious that are being thrown around.

The only Heisei films that comes across as truly "serious" are RETURN OF GODZILLA and GODZILLA VS. DESTOROYAH anyway. All the rest have too many fantastical elements to be labeled as such. Those two are the only ones that even come close to being as serious as the original 1954 film.

"Serious", however, doesn't make a great film. DESTOROYAH, especially, is really quite lackluster.

I could do without the mocking...

Anyways I don't care if you don't like what I like. I am the one that is being heavily questioned about saying I like one thing and not the other. People say I am the one that gets upset when someone doesn't like what I like when at the same time I am the only one being picked apart about it.

So I have a different taste then most of you, why does that mean I get heavily questioned and mocked whenever I say something about it?
