How Long do Kaiju live?

Postby UltramanGoji » Mon May 07, 2012 5:36 am

This question has been in my mind for many a day.

How long do kaiju live?

I'd imagine it would be about three centuries.

As long as there's a plot shield.

Long as you want. I think it takes away from one's enjoyment to look to closely at the films, trying to work out a solid continuity and a solid internal narrative framework...

No. The Mothra in her debut film was far bigger.

Mothra's life, death, and rebirth cycle seems pretty continuous though--I get the impression that Mothra may in a sense be immortal, sort of like the phoenix.

The majority of giant monsters are either gods, space aliens or mutations though. I think their lifespans vary wildly, though for various reasons, they all seem to be pretty long-lived.

A lot of them also have a tendency to get frozen or buried and are able to stay in suspended animation/hibernate for EONS without dying or decomposing. Accounting for that makes figuring out their lifespans even more confusing.

If we believe Dr. Yamane, both the original Godzilla and Anguirus are at least 65 million years old. :/

Well, Godzilla in the Heisei era lived to be pretty old. He was already a fully grown Godzillasaurus in WWII, and as Godzilla he lived until he died in 1995 and that's only because he absorbed too much radiation. And the Godzilla from Megaguirus was pretty damn old as well.

I guess the answer to this is that kaiju can live a really skreeonk long time.

Godzilla is a living being like everything else on the Planet, Godzilla is likely to die from old age. I guess Godzilla could live up to 200 - 500 years.

Many of the prehistoric animal kaiju seem to hibernate or sleep alot. Maybe that's why they live so long. If not fallen in battle, I imagine they'd die after 100 or 200 years. There are tortoises that have similar lifespans.

But the real answer is that kaiju live as long as the movie industry wants them to.

Continuity wasn't an issue back then. Mothra was Mothra.

Well not ever dinosaur monster is 65 million years old. In Gojira they mention there might have been a colony of Godzilla's kind living and breeding for eons in underwater caves before they were disturbed by nuclear tests.

I read somewhere that Kong in the 2005 film was about 150 years old. That's probably the only time I've ever seen a monster's age like that.

But based on the Loch Ness Monster, Champ, Big Foot, the Chupacabra and everything else, I'd say they manage to live a pretty long time.

If you're going to try and explain any portion of the time line, please click here, as there is already an official explanation.

Otherwise, please proceed.

I dunno, I'd say they live not entirely too long. 100 at most, on average.

I'm 19, anything above the age of 45 is pretty damn old to me. Doesn't mean I think anything less of 'em.

Ill say a really long time because of Hibernation. But another good example is of Junior after Destoroyah of how
Emmy said Godzilla never destroys japan but i can help but think that he doesnt either for the reason that
he is Hibernating, Died of old age by then (23 or 22 century i dont remember at the top of my head) or
for its obvious "alliance" with the Humans.
Unstoppable Fury , Unthinkable Power , Unbreakable Will.

We know Showa Ghidorah is several thousand years old, according to the Martian. Unless there's more than one of them, which we have to assume is not the case.
