Review
Anthony Romero

The first of two DVDs from Newgin for the 3S-T Battle game. This one was released before the title hit pachinko parlors, and focuses exclusively on the live action filming that was done by Koichi Kawakita in February of 2006. The video is only a scant four minutes in total though, opening up with a sequence that's in need of some proofreading. Consequently, only diehards will probably be interested in acquiring this release.

 Video:

Pretty lackluster video presentation here, although serviceable given the material. First of all, the video track is not anamorphic, despite the fact that the majority of the video being displayed is in a widescreen aspect ratio (general note: the overall aspect ratio is being reported as 1.33:1 simply because a few scenes are filmed at that aspect). In terms of quality, the colors here, particularly on the main title, look a little washed out as well. It appears someone bumped the saturation level a little too high for this release, which makes the colors in some segments more defined but clearly has a negative effect on others. The video, overall, looks soft too, lacking a sharp focus, which is odd given the very brief runtime that would have allowed for no compression to the material.

 Audio:

This disc contains one audio track, which is, expectedly, in Japanese. The audio quality is serviceable, nothing extraordinary about it but it gets the job done. In terms of options, though, the disc comes up noticeably short, not even boasting an optional subtitle track.

 Extras:

Nothing, not even a menu for the DVD.

 Overview:

Bottom line, there really is no reason to pick this DVD up, unless for collector purposes only. There is hardly anything to the release, and the content contained inside was later featured on the second DVD from Newgin.
