| The second
to last disc in the set starts out with two themes from
the Record Single release for Prophecies of Nostradamus.
For some reason, these two tracks were given the generic
names of "Side-A" and "Side-B", as
opposed to "Main Theme" and "Love Theme"
as they were referred to on VAP's 1996 release. Following
this is the full soundtrack for Submersion of Japan
by Masaru
Sato. Overall, Sato's score for the movie is pleasant,
particularly the "Japanese Archipelago" theme,
and is surprisingly upbeat at times; however, it's not
entirely memorable and a lot of it tends to work better
as a companion to the movie than as a stand alone experience.
In terms of its presentation on this set, one can't complain
much although it does lack two outtakes found on VAP's
earlier release of the soundtrack in the 1990's. The CD
finishes off with an exclusive to the set in the form
of the full soundtrack to The Blue Stigma, which
is another offering from Sato. Unfortunately, this is
far from one of the composer's better scores, although
it's at least more engaging than some of his earliest
work in the 1950's. The vast majority of this soundtrack
kind of falls flat though, with short cues that are over
in a minute or less and don't make much of an impression.
There are some worthwhile aspects, like the "Minami
and Hyodo" theme along with the deliciously retro
"Humanoid Welcome Party", but this are very
few and far between. The song for the movie is also fairly
awful. It's marginally tolerable in Japanese, but it's
English counterpart is just hard to stomach.
