| The fourth
disc in the set focuses primarily on the first two Mechagodzilla
films. Overall, the pairing of the two features works
very well, not too surprisingly. Masaru
Sato's score for the 1974 production is of course
an excellent stand alone experience, as the long time
composer gives such memorable cues as the "Sea Coral"
and "Godzilla vs. Anguirus". The score is definitely
one of the better of Sato's career and also one of the
more enjoyable soundtracks from the long running Godzilla
series. The selection here, though, sadly lacks the three
extra tracks found on Toshiba's 1993 release. Fortunately,
Beru-Bera Lin's two songs are readily available on other
compilations, like the Godzilla Song Book, so
it isn't too much of a loss. The other soundtrack found
on this disc is for Akira
Ifukube's score for Terror Mechagodzilla.
Ifukube's soundtrack for the 1975 feature is far from
a highlight in the composer's long career, but his score
is very enjoyable none the same. The standout selection
from this score is easily his "Mechagodzilla 2"
theme, which is quite easily one of the best themes from
any Toho score. Thankfully, the selection here is identical
to that of Toshiba's release of the soundtrack, so nothing
is lost. Finally, the disc rounds out its runtime with
a record single of "All You Need is Love" by
Kiyohiko Ozaki for the ESPY movie.
