| The third
disc in the set focuses solely on the Godzilla films.
It starts out by finishing up the coverage of Godzilla
vs. Hedorah, featuring the last 12 tracks from the
score along with the two record single cues. Unfortunately,
the selection lacks the volume of bonus material found
on the earlier Toshiba release, in particular the Karaoke
versions. However, at least it avoids the overkill with
the "Give Back the Sun!" song, as other releases
tend to go overboard with variants of the song. After
this comes a very select, oftentimes questionable, presentation
for Godzilla vs. Gigan. First up, one will note
that for some reason the "Main Title" cue is
complete with sound effects here. The quality isn't particularly
good either, sounding like it was recorded directly off
of a home video release of the movie. Next up is another
odd selection, this time the unedited themes from Yoshimitsu
Banno's original Birth of the Japanese Islands
documentary that was screened at the Mitsubishi Pavilion
in 1970. These two tracks are much shorter than what would
originally be spliced up to create the final moments of
the climax in Godzilla vs. Gigan. They are noteworthy,
though, for not appearing on the Toshiba release in 1993,
but they are featured in Toho's "Soundtrack Perfect
Collection." Last up on this disc is Riichiro Manabe's
score for Godzilla vs. Megalon. To the composer's
credit, it's a distinct improvement over his Hedorah soundtrack,
although it still falls short overall. There are a couple
of gems to be found in the score, such as the oddly sinister
"The Self Defense Force Mobilizes" theme along
with the very carefree "Highway Road". Although
sadly there are more than the score's share of awful tracks
as well. In terms of extras, unfortunately there isn't
any, as even the "Record Single" stuff for Godzilla
vs. Megalon seems to have been left off.
