This is
the first soundtrack for the extremely successful
film Bayside Shakedown 2. The best track on this
release is easily the 2003 version of "Rhythm and
Police", a tune which people who aren't even familiar
with Bayside Shakedown are probably well versed
in due to its appearance in some of the Dance Dance
Revolution video games. However, the 2003 version
of this cue is hardly the best, so there isn't much
incentive to get it for this alone. Sadly, nothing
much else about this briskly running CD clicks with
the listener either, as the techno style vibe to
the other tracks tend to get very repetitive and
lose the listener long before their runtime finishes.
A couple of them, like the alternate mix to "G-Groove",
are pleasant in small doses though. As for the actual
score selection, like "Murder",
the few of these that are included tend to have a Native
American type of chant style to them, and will likely
be hit or miss depending on the listener's preference
to this style of music. One thing that shouldn't
go unnoted about this disc, though, is the inclusion
of the vocal track "Search Out", which
is a rap song done in English. Predictably, though,
the song is fairly painful to endure once let alone
multiple times, and I can only imagine that it would
be more tolerable when the listener has no idea what
he's saying.
As for the second disc in this release, it's actually
a DVD that features a brief behind the scenes look at
Bayside Shakedown 2. Before watching it, I had
considered placing it up as its own separate review,
but honestly the footage is only two minutes long without
any menus or anything. Really the DVD is such a waste
when all is said and done, and I can't imagine someone
even going through the effort of watching it more than
once. Overall, the best thing about this release is
the
"Rhythm and Police" song, which is found
elsewhere, so there really is little reason to get this
set while those looking for stuff from Bayside
Shakedown 2 would be better suited in just picking
up volume "V" (UMCK-4054) from this series.
