Released
shortly after Godzilla
vs. Destoroyah (1995) arrived in Japanese
theaters, this CD is a composition of selected tracks
from the Heisei Godzilla series. As in the previous
CD in this series from Toshiba, the music tracks come
from different composers who participated in the Heisei
movies alongside main Godzilla series composer Akira
Ifukube.
In terms of the music present, there is a nice selection
of themes, though it might have benefitted from a
few of these tracks being replaced by more important
cues. However, at least the songs sound fine and close
enough to match the themes as they were used in the
films, although (and perhaps it is just me) one of
the tracks, “Moguera Ready to Go II", is
missing a part of it.
Alongside the CD, the case comes with a small booklet.
After the introductions, the main body of the booklet
is a commentary of the songs used in the CD with a
column about the usage of music in relation to the
Godzilla series following close behind. Finally, the
booklet ends with a small section that consists of
an interview with Ifukube. Unfortunately, the language
is mainly in Japanese. While the arrangement is mostly
in order of release, three tracks, two that precede
the others and another that plays at the end, are
situated out of chronological order.
Two years later, GNP would use a good portion of these
tracks when they released The Best of Godzilla
1984-1995 (GNPD-8056).
As for getting this particular CD, well it’s
been a long while and it would be difficult to find,
so one might be better off with another compilation.
